On 29 April 2026, the Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment proposed a targeted amendment so mixed municipal waste for recovery can continue to Switzerland after the 21 May 2026 export ban under the new EU Waste Shipment Regulation — affecting roughly 200,000 tonnes per year and border regions in Austria, France, Germany and Italy.
